Beauty and Beast
Interview: After the great commotion caused by parting of singer from the Finnish metal band Nightwish in 2005, began graduated soprano her solo career. This Scandinavian will take a tour in German in May. Our colleague Anne Kirchberg spoke with her before this.
Are you sorry that since your departure from Nightwish you still have disputes?
The sadness in me will remain forever. I would like to make it never happened. On the other hand, it is gone and I don’t think about it as much as before. Because there is no room for it in my daily life. However, it is clear to me that I will be associated with this band, which is fine for me. I just have no reason to still think and talk about it.
It is easy for you to find new ideas for your solo career after the separation?
I love the freedom I have today. I got it, because it was given to me by my dear husband and I am still what I am. I was clear to me what kind of music I want to do. It just was not easy to explain it to the publisher and band members. I love to combine and create a classic-rock style which sometimes includes elements of film music, the dreaminess and hard guitar riffs at the same time.
How do you transfer this to your concerts?
Most of all you can expect a little more dreaminess and femininity. First and foremost is the music, but the decoration is also important, because I am very colorful and romantic person. There is also romance, hardness and melancholy linked together, which makes a shocking change in my program. By this I show myself as both beauty and beast.
Will fans of Nightwish feel well at your gigs?
Definitely. And at every concert I play a song from Nightwish. Anyone who likes rock, metal or classic music should experience the show. People will be enchanted by the magical arts and melodies. The band is full of energy and we can guarantee that everyone will enjoy it. I love the way my audience gives that energy back to me, and it is especially about the joy and sincerity.
Do you like in Germany? You have lived here for two years during musical studies in Karlsruhe.
Absolutely! It was a huge city for me where I had everything and I could develop. I rode the bike every day from my beautiful home to college. The only thing I disliked was rainy winters. And my first day, my secretary said, "We are talking here only in German, no English”, it was hard. But this is why I speak German so good. Unfortunately I've forgotten a lot. But after a week in Germany, it comes back.
What is it like for you to have gig in Karlsruhe during your current tour?
Spectacular, I never had a rock concert here. I've already called all my friends and acquaintances that they absolutely must come. It's an exceptional performance for me, because I have wonderful memories of my time in Karlsruhe. I have spent here a great deal of my adolescence and I enjoyed the city, friends, music lessons and independence.
What are your wishes for the future?
I am currently working on preparations for the next album. And prepare for something that is unprecedented. In addition, I have free time for a side projects and small dreams: to travel more, stay healthy, spend some time with my husband and hopefully one day the child. Although I can not imagine my life without music one day I would like to have my own restaurant, where only steaks and wine would be served. Who knows, maybe it will be in Germany.
