30 years ago on the 8th of December 1980 John Lennon died after being shot in the back by Mark David Chapman.
John Winston Ono Lennon was an English musician and singer-songwriter, he was also one of the founding members of The Beatles .After the break-up of The Beatles, back in 1970 John focused on his solo career. His debut album as John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970), was received with opened arms by the public and by critics. Critic Greil Marcus remarked, “John’s singing in the last verse of ‘God’ may be the finest in all of rock.”
John Lennon promoted peace through his songs and anti-war activities. John Lennon said this about himself: “My role in society, or any artist’s or poet’s role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.”
It’s been 30 years since one of the greatest musicians has left us, but people around the world still remember him. His songs will l continue to inspire many generations to come.
